Instructors

It takes a lot of people to run a club like ours and here at CYTA we have a hard working team of instructors and a fantastic volunteer management committee helping out with the day to day activities that you see and many of the background tasks that you don’t.

Below you can see the members of our team along with the tasks they undertake. Please feel free to talk to these people should you need help or advice, but also please do respond to them if they contact you.

A Brief History of CYTA & Our Affiliations

CYTA stands for Chung Yong Taekwondo Academy or, in English, Blue Dragon Taekwondo Academy and is one of two Chung Yong groups in the UK. The second group is Chung Yong Taekwondo (an intentionally subtle difference) who are based in Scotland. We view ourselves as one Chung Yong family and the only reason for the two different groups is to allow us each the freedom to align with the best associations and provide the best support and opportunities to our students for our respective geographic locations.

Master William Rose

Chung Yong itself was originally formed in 1982 by Master William Rose who, with an active military career himself, chose the name in respect of the historically renowned 2nd Marine Division of the Korean army known as the Blue Dragons. Chung Yong was set up with clubs in England and Scotland and initially taught Taekwondo to Adults only. In 1988 the first Chung Yong kids class was opened in the Cannons leisure Center, Mitcham, Surrey which was the club Master Dean Gibbs, one of the chief instructors of CYTA, started in at the age of 6 years old.

CYTA is a member of Taekwondo Chungdokwan GB (TCGB) an network of clubs in England and south Wales. CYTA has a long history with TCGB and its senior instructors who provide a wealth of experience and worldwide connections. TCGB run regular seminars, courses and Dan gradings which CYTA play an active role in both delivering and supporting.

CYTA is also a member of British Taekwondo the NGB for Taekwondo in the UK and the only group with the Olympic mandate. Our membership to British Taekwondo ensures all our students have training insurance, we are backed up by a strong H&S and safeguarding body and that we have access to all the talent pathways to national academies and teams.
